I just saw this movie tonight and it was nothing short of delightful. It embodies almost everything I love—girl power, blogging, food & cooking, Paris, New York, and edifying, meaningful relationships. And Meryl Streep is charming and adorable in it!
In August 2009, after watching Julie & Julia in theaters, I blogged about it. It’s probably apparent that I merely found the film entertaining back then; now, however, two years later with a little more life experience—and insight, as I like to tell myself—under my belt, I’m re-watching it and declaring it my personal power movie. Because, well, did you know it took Julia Child eight years, three rejections, and multiple setbacks before she published Mastering the Art of French Cooking?
People give me funny, perplexed looks when I tell them Julia Child is my personal hero. To them I retort, “Do you know who she is?!”
Yes, the woman made French cooking accessible to Americans. Yes, she wrote cookbooks and memoirs. Yes, she was a nationally-adored television personality.
Even more poignant than that, though, she embodies persistence, determination, willpower, dedication, and woman power. She discovered her passion, ran after it, mastered it, and shared it with the world.
And, by God, the woman can cook!
Travail bien fait, Julia. Job well done.
